For centuries loofahs have been prized as the ultimate luxury in bathing sponges. They are totally biodegradable, natural and renewable resource as they are made from the fruits of the Luffa aegyptiaca vine.
They have been used for bathing products because when wet, the loofah fibre swells and becomes sponge-like, gently exfoliating while stimulating circulation. Our natural fibres Loofah products range include soap pockets and shower mitts for face, body and feet.
Sourced from the Luffa plant which leaves a durable network of fibers after treating and drying the fruit, the resulting mildly abrasive scrubber exfoliates your skin and enhances surface circulation. It is a natural renewable product that will slough off dead cells and smooth rough skin, leaving your skin smooth and revitalised.
Exfoliation
The outermost layer of your skin, the epidermis, naturally sheds dead skin cells. Exfoliation helps this natural process along, using gentle friction to brush excess skin cells from the surface of your skin. Removing dead skin cells not only improves the look of your skin, it also helps regenerate the growth of new skin cells.
Improving Circulation
Any friction on your skin increases localised blood flow. Capillaries, the tiny blood vessels closest to your skin, naturally expand when stimulated. A loofah stimulates increased circulation to areas that you scrub with it. Unlike harshly abrasive scrubbers and sponges, a loofah's firm but elastic fibers are round in cross section and are less likely to scratch skin.
Using a Loofah
Uniquely designed by Mother Nature to thoroughly cleanse and massage your skin!
Wet the loofah before first use, and it will soften immediately; it will continue to soften with continued use, and will harden again when dry
This is particularly important with the elderly or those with delicate skin, as only gentle stimulation is needed
Massage with circular movements, starting at palms and soles of feet, working your way upward
Add body wash or soap and your skin will be cleansed as well as exfoliated and stimulated.
Care and Maintenance
Treat it like your toothbrush!
It's a good idea for each member of the family to have their own loofah
Allow to air dry by hanging after each use to avoid mildew and to keep fresh for each use
Occasionally sterilise by boiling, a mild bleach solution or machine washing
Discard after 3 months or so of use and replace with a new one.
Useful tip: hair removal
Prepare the skin prior to or following hair removal.
Use the loofah before shaving or waxing to reduce the amount of dead skin on the surface of the body. Exfoliating the skin first helps improve the results of the hair removal process.
The loofah will exfoliate dead skin in the area before waxing and helps ensure an even wax application for the hair removal.
Using a loofah before shaving may help prevent the ingrown hairs from occurring.
Using the loofah after hair removal may help encourage the hair to shed. Ingrown hairs may occur after shaving hair from the body and using a loofah may help free the trapped hair from the skin.
Use the loofah within a few hours following shaving to help prevent ingrown hairs from occurring by releasing the tip of the hair from the surface of the skin.
